Best most gay game ever! I don’t really like shooters, and this isn’t really that great an example of the genre, but in the same way that I love playing Parodius because of its amazing levels of sillyness, this is just bizarre to great excellence. Sadly, I’m rubbish at it and so only got as far as level 3.
I don’t really like side scrolling shooters. There are a few in the genre that have interested me over the years – Side Arms, Zero Wing and Sol Feace. Of course, I loved Parodius and Ai Cho Aniki too, but they’re “comedy” shooters. I was never a fan of most of the “big name” shooters – Gradius, R-Type, Thunderforce, etc. I don’t know why. Oh my. This has to be the most gay game I’ve played since Ai Cho Aniki. It’s great though. Sort of. I’ve done the tutorial, and the first level, but I’m having real problems controlling my katamari rolling. I can’t seem to “rotate” around the ball as I roll it – I just end up rolling sideways which doesn’t help for navigation as you can’t see a bloody thing. And the music is stuck in my head.
I used to have this for the Spectrum. It was crap. I also have it for the Megadrive. It is crap on that as well. Luckily, the arcade version isn’t, mainly due to twin-stickness making it much easier to aim your shots. It’s a bit of a cross between Parodius, Ai Cho Aniki, and Robotron, with some added Fantasy Zone shops. It was pretty good too, with bizarre bosses and the best Japlish cutscenes and ending ever.
